The Seven Elder Teachings project was a multi-media and multifaceted project designed to empower both Aboriginal and Multicultural communities and families to share knowledge, guidance and ideas, focused on the values of First Nations Traditional teachings. The project allowed for the exchange of cultural understanding between young and old, which was explored through story-telling, visual creation and video.

Each week of the eight-week program consisted of a First Nations Elder presenting a specific teaching, followed by guided participation facilitated by Project Artist Jori Cachene, in the expression and portrayal of these teachings through visual art mediums. The project was filmed in it’s entirety and edited into a one-hour production, suitable for broadcast, by film-maker Peter Brass.

Elders for the project included:

Harold McNab - 'Wisdom'

Harold Benjoe - 'Respect and Trust'

Bernice Musqua - 'Respect'

Irene Favel - 'Love'

Murray Ironchild - 'Various'

Audrey Cachene - 'Significance and usage of Tobacco'

Beatrice Laframboise - General Over-view
