Regina Arts For All Essentials 2012

Part 2: September 24 – 26, 10 am – 6pm

 

This intensive course will focus on the principles, practices and underpinnings of ‘community arts practice’, the tremendous value it has for communities, and the things you need to know to launch your own project. Workshop leader is Ruth Howard of Toronto’s Jumblies Theatre.

The workshop is designed for people interested and/or experienced in art and other processes that engage the community; artists of all ages, disciplines and traditions, as well as arts administrators and others with a professional or special interest in community-engaged arts practices. The format will include presentations, discussions, guest presenters, hands-on workshops, creative explorations, take-home resources, and optional evening performances.

Topics include:

Definitions, values and principles

Developing your own vision

Project start-up and basics

Planning and partnerships

Budgets and grant-writing

Arts-based and oral history research

Facilitation skills

Documentation and evaluation, legacy and sustainability

Conflicts, challenges and rewards

Aesthetics and ethics

Inter and multi-disciplinary approaches

Diversity (of culture, age and ability)

 

Workshop costs: $150, $75 students. Subsidies available for those with exceptional circumstances.

Morning and afternoon coffee, tea and snacks, and lunch will be provided.
